In math this month, we have studied geometry. We have learned about various polygons, lines, rays, and segments. We have also learned about different angles and how to measure those angles.
We have been learning about fiction in reading this month. We have learned that some traditional literature contains special cultural language as well as a variety of literary language. Many fiction books contain an author's message or theme and can put the reader in a specific mood depending on the author's words and tone.
In writing we have been working on our revision process with our character trait pieces on Charlotte's Web. We have learned how to draft a good lead to pull our readers into our papers. We will be sharing our finished pieces with our peers early next month.
As a culminating activity in our science unit on habitats, we have skyped with people from the Brookfield Zoo about creating a unique animal toy for one of the animals in the zoo. They showed us various inventions they have created and posed us with the challenge to create our own. The students have worked in 3/4 mixed groups with Mrs. Darby's and Mrs. Zapatka's class to create some interesting interactive animal toys. We plan to send these ideas and see one actually created for the animals! We are so excited!!
We have also worked hard on our Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser! After giving an all school assembly, we have been keeping track of classroom donations and passed out various prizes.
