We finished our nonfiction unit in reading. We learned about the different structures in nonfiction text: comparison/contrast, cause/effect, main idea/detail, description, problem/solution, and chronological. Many nonfiction texts use a combination of text structures to help share information with the reader. We also reviewed an author's purpose and how it can effect the words he/she uses and the structure used in different texts.
In math, we are finishing our multiplication/division chapter. We are showing multiplication using number lines, area models, arrays, and tallies to create equal groups. We need to continue to work on memorizing our multiplication and division facts in order to solve word problems and number problems accurately and efficiently.
We are ready to start working on our scripts and determine necessary props to create our weather newscasts. What a great culminating activity to show all we have learned about weather: how the sky looks and the air feels.
We have been working on narrative writing and will continue to finish our first pieces in December. We have been learning that narrative writing are true experiences that have happened to us and use chronological order to move through a small moment in time. We had fun acting out emotions in order to show readers how people in our stories look as they feel different emotions.
We developed our reading and math goals this month and are ready to track our individual progress on our lead measures!
