Last Friday was our class field trip on the Wendella Boat. We had a beautiful day for it! It was a lot of fun and we learned all about Chicago's lake and river. It was really interesting to hear about how the river was reversed. We were so glad that we had studied about the river so we knew what we were seeing.
We also started our Global Read-Aloud book Marty McGuire. We read the first 2 chapters, after we skyped with our partner class from Indiana. It was fun to meet the class who we are going to work with on this Read Aloud project. The book is about a girl in third grade. We can't wait to hear about her adventures.
In social studies, we finished up research on the Chicago World's Fairs and shared our videos. We also talked about how to improve our research and our projects. The class came up with some great ideas together! Next week we will be talking about neighborhoods in Chicago today. We are really excited about our upcoming Westgate World's Fair, on October 23, 2013. It is going to be so great to learn about different cultures that make up Chicago today.
In reading, we have been working on determining the author's purpose for writing a story. We are reading stories and looking to see if they are persuasive, informative, or entertaining.
In math, we are working on different ways to add and subtract with regrouping.
In writing, we took a break from our narrative writing, to practice our showing skills in a fiction piece about a haunted house.
Don't forget that we have no school Monday or Tuesday.
