This first week of March has been crazy with ISAT testing and more snow.
We have taken 4 tests so far and have 2 more to go next week.
In math, the kids have been working on creating their own math board and card games. Each student has made their own game including math problems, rules, and a game board. We had a lot of fun trying out each other's games.

In read aloud, we are reading Gregor the Overlander, about a boy who travels into an amazing underground world filled with people, gigantic bats, roaches, and rats.
In Social Studies, we've been working on researching Native American Tribes from Illinois History. Students worked in groups to research a topic that changed over time through the different tribes (environment, society, beliefs, identity, technology, and economy). We then explored a new app- Explain Everything. We figured out how to add and annotate pictures and turn them into a video. We then started using the app to explain the changes that we saw in our topic over time.
We had a great art appreciation lesson, learning about the artist Henri Matisse and the use of color contrasts and patterns to make art. The students had a great time creating and sharing after a long week of testing.
The class worked together to come up with a new behavior plan to help with chattiness in the classroom. Each team has a leader each week. The kids created stoplight colored blocks to show what the volume level should be. Red=Hero Zero- no talking in the classroom, we are listening to one speaker. Yellow=Low Flow- you can talk to the kids at your team or in your group. Green=Talk Walk- you can talk to each other and move around the classroom. The leader's job is to help remind their team to look at which color we are on.
