We have been very busy this month finishing up projects, units, and getting ready for break!
In reading, we have been working on finding cause and effect in different non-fiction stories. We read about orphaned elephants in Africa and the effects of Earth's tilt on our lives. We've been doing several close reading activities with our solar system unit. It's amazing how much there is to learn about the solar system.
In writing, we've worked on writing interesting leads to get our reader excited about our story. We also took a short break from narrative writing to work on an expository piece about Earth's tilt and a persuasive piece about the planet we've been studying.
In math, we've been exploring different math skills including area, multiplication, and data reading using small, but fun projects.
In Science, we've continued to learn about our solar system. We just completed a research project about the planets. We had to choose two categories for our planet (most unique, most beautiful, wildest weather, strangest atmosphere, most Earth-like, scariest, and most interesting moon) and convince the other third graders that we deserved an award. This Thursday we will be finding out if our planets won any awards.
To see the research that we worked on, our persuasive pieces, and some extra learning we've been doing about the solar system, please visit our wiki at www.beyondthesolarsystem.wikispaces.com.
Have a fun, happy, and safe break!
