Happy Thanksgiving week!
In writing this week, we took a little break from our narrative writing to write a persuasive paper . . . about not eating turkey on Thanksgiving! By learning some steps to write persuasively through OREO, we learned to: give an Opinion, give Reasons for our opinions, support our reasons with Examples, and restate our Opinions with an action plan. The persuasive papers are fun, and we made some self-portrait turkeys to go with them. They are hanging in the hall outside room 119.
We had some fun learning some interesting tricks for multiplying by 9 this week as well as some other strategies for multiplication facts. We continue to work on multiplying and dividing with fact families and applying these skills to word problems.
In reading, most of us finished our guided reading lessons on coral reefs. We also read about the process an author goes through before getting a book published. We learned that we go through some of the same frustrations in our own writing classes.
We continue to learn about our solar system, focusing on the phases of the moon, the moon's movement around the sun, and the Earth-sun-moon system. We will soon be learning about the planets!
