Reading: In reading this month, we worked on reading a variety of fiction. We learned about different types of traditional literature like fables, folktales, and fairy tales. We discussed perspective, mood, and a variety of different text structures and ended by comparing and contrasting different fairy tales told from different perspectives.
Science: We started our Forces unit, learning about pushes and pulls by participating in a variety of explorations involving gravity, friction, and even static electricity with "sliders," magnets, and even "hoppers." We will continue to enjoy this unit with a Forces carnival next month!
Writing: We began our nonfiction writing unit and have learned about a variety of ways to present nonfiction information to a reader. We are working with partners to research animals and categorize our facts into groups: habitat, food, life cycle, and body. We will continue to research and create our drafts next month.
Math: We completed our division unit by applying our knowledge of division facts to completing some long division with and without remainders. This unit was very challenging as it relies on being fluent with both multiplication and division facts in order to solve one and two-step word problems.
We ended the month with some self-reflection, creating slide-shows we will update next month in preparation for our student-led conferences!
