Mrs. Danley's reading class is beginning to review the different types of nonfiction. In this unit, we will be learning about a variety of types of nonfiction and the differences between the information and purpose of these genres.
In Mrs. Danley's writing class we are learning about editing and revising our narrative pieces in google docs and then conferencing to make changes before having our first publishing party of the year. We completed our revisions and celebrated by reading and making positive comments on our peers' papers. It was wonderful to see all the showing details and strong verbs used in a variety of stories!
In 3rd grade math, we are continuing to work on subtraction in the thousands both with and without regrouping. After our assessment on subtraction, we learned about applying bar models when solving one and two-step addition and subtraction word problems. Using the visual clues of a bar model, we are more easily able to determine whether addition, subtraction, or both are needed to determine a solution to a given problem!
We are wrapping up our Chicago unit. We have skyped with a Chicago school on the North side of the city. We are preparing our projects and presentations for our Chicago World's Fair. We look forward to showing you what we have learned about the different neighborhoods in Chicago and celebrating the diversity that makes that city great.
In science, we have begun investigating push and pull forces and different ways to affect those forces.
