The students have been working hard on their 15 Day Challenge projects this month. Be setting short term goals, receiving peer feedback, and modifying those goals, everyone is learning how to be in control of their own learning. The enthusiasm and energy in the classroom is contagious!
Mrs. Danley's writing class has completed their sentence writing activities in their interactive writing notebooks and are applying their learning to a final narrative writing piece. By looking back and selecting an earlier notebook entry, they are able to improve their drafts by incorporating what they have learned about more effective, detailed sentences.
In Mrs. Danley's reading class, we have finished our nonfiction unit. The students have composed biography articles about peers by applying what they have learned about author's purpose, message, structure, and nonfiction text features. They have also learned to support their learning by comparing and summarizing two related nonfiction articles and providing text evidence to strengthen those summaries.
We have been working on our multiplication unit in math. By working with array models, number lines, area models, and multiplication charts, the students are learning about multiplying by 6's-9's. We are also looking at the various properties of multiplication and the relationship between multiplication and division.
