In social studies, we have been learning about Illinois history. After reading about a time period in Illinois, the students have placed themselves into that time period and recorded journal entries about the types of things that would happen during their lives at that time.
We are writing about fiction by reading and responding to text from Charlotte's Web. The students are applying character traits to different characters and supporting those traits with evidence from the text. We have also come up with our own words to describe Wilbur if we were recording them in the web. Some of them have not been flattering but have been accepted if they can be supported!
In Mrs. Danley's reading class, we have completed our nonfiction reading unit and have begun to read and analyze fiction text. The students are learning about folktales, mysteries, historical fiction, and realistic fiction as they apply author's message, vocabulary skills, and determine mood.
In 3rd grade math with Mrs. Danley, we have extended our understanding of the multiplication facts and applied them to larger numbers. We have been learning how to regroup when multiplying and why we need to regroup. We continue to challenge ourselves to master our multiplication facts in order to become more efficient when multiplying bigger numbers and solving word problems.
