In reading this month, we finished learning about the 6 signposts author's use when writing fiction stories: Again and Again, Contrasts & Contradictions, Aha Moment, Memory Moment, Words of the Wiser, and Tough Questions. The class has learned about these signposts by reading short stories and watching PIXAR short videos, identifying signposts and questions about text. We have also been working with some nonfiction text to learn how to identify the author's main idea and supporting details.
Our social studies topic has included both Chicago and land forms. Students created landform slides as part of a class google doc, defining their landforms, locating an example, and including a picture to teach their peers. The class did a wonderful job creating projects to share what they have learned about Chicago history and important points of interest in Chicago today. We really enjoyed sharing these with you during our Chicago Expo this month! The class did a great job both creating and presenting.
Much of our writing has included both informational and opinion writing. The class has learned about supporting a topic sentence with supportive facts and explanations. Through the planning, drafting, revision, and editing process, they are seeing the importance of each state of the writing process.
In math, we have applied our skills of adding and subtracting with and without regrouping to word problems. By supporting our ideas visually with bar models, we are exploring the reasons for adding and subtracting in different situations.
We had a wonderful time at our Halloween party! Thank you so much to all of those that volunteered time and supplies to help make our day so much fun!
