November and December have been fun and busy months in the Redley class!
In reading, we have been focusing on nonfiction texts. We've worked on finding main idea and details, learning different text structures, using text features to learn new information, and discovering the different types of nonfiction text. We have explored the elements of biographies and will continue to work with biographies after winter break. Students have practiced written responses.
In writing, we have been working on our personal narrative unit. Using a small moment that we have experienced, we are making a timeline, focusing on the moment, and using strong showing details. We are including dialogue and descriptive details to make our stories interesting to readers.
In math, we have been working on multiplication and division facts as well as multiplying 3 digit numbers by 1 digit numbers. Keep practicing those math facts, using the sites we've provided on google classroom, flashcards, or worksheets. The faster you know your facts, the easier it will be to move to our tougher skills. We will be working on higher level division as well as word problems with multiplication and division after winter break.
Many of the kids in our class have been participating in book clubs with kids from the other third grade classes.
This month, we started our 10 day challenge. Every student in our class chose a topic or skill to learn on their own. It has been awesome watching everyone's enthusiasm, perseverance, and reflection during this process.
Finally, we hope that you all have an amazing end to 2018 and start to the new year! We can't wait to see all of the fun and learning that is to come with this awesome class!
