In reading this month, we have been learning about nonfiction. We have learned that this genre has different types of nonfiction: literary, narrative, and reference. We have also learned that nonfiction writing can include different structures: descriptive, problem-solution, chronological, cause/effect, and comparison. By reading a variety of nonfiction pieces, we have begun to understand the author's viewpoint and purpose as well as learned about a variety of topics!
In writing we have finished our narrative pieces and enjoyed reading each other's papers during our publishing party. Through this unit, we have gone through the whole process writing from rough drafts, revisions, editing, and sharing with an audience.
The Midwest has been our unit of study in social studies. In small groups, we have "traveled" around the Midwest, stopping in the different states and collecting different information about each. Ask your child some silly miscellaneous information they learned when choosing a "fate" card! Some were quite funny!
In math, we have finished our unit on perimeter and area and have begun learning about multiplication and division number models
